On a Clear Winter Night - This limited palette nocturne, purely invented, gave me an allowance of freedom to explore options. Working with the idea of what a painting might need is often more enjoyable than competing to only capture reality.

Turnip - This piece was difficult to find but once established the subtle harmony was worth the search.

Sunset Fuse - In the desert southwest one of the most exciting times each day is it's last light. The normally harsh environment is transformed, a revealed softness, welcomed relief from another day's heat.

SOLD - Shadow's Bloom - The revealed pattern and featured distant hill, as the somewhat mundane light vacated the scene, was just as the bloom of another season. Something to behold.

Apple Texture - This was an exploration I did some time ago. I have recently framed it for a friend in Oklahoma who owns the piece now. After seeing it new again I am quite pleased with the textural applications.

SOLD - Tea and Stripes - This piece was born from more of a color standpoint than anything else. Focusing on something in the process of painting and making it the priority allows for the other issues to be open and more malleable.

Some Red Some Green - Working with the two extremes of red and green the balance was in finding the relationships between the physical things and the shapes of color. Both are important, both need to feature themselves, neither can dominate.

Curled In - The simplest of subjects, can often create huge obstacles to confront. Sometimes the simple is not so easy.

Tea - Almost monochromatic this piece was a challenge to inject just enough warmth to balance the spectrum so that it has a variety to it's blueness.

Passenger's of the Night - The scale in this painting was one of my priorities in it's planning. A combination of study from nature and my invented desire's allowed me to paint this piece.

Overgrown - I was in Crested Butte Colorado where I saw this barn last summer. When you are out looking you say no to most of what you see as a possibility and then finally there is a yes. If you're lucky.

Lemon, Box, Vase - I thought it was interesting how the addition of another element and a format change creates a whole other possibility than the previous painting.
I just returned from teaching a three day workshop at the Water Street Art Gallery in Sapulpa, OK. We had a good class with a great group of students and worked hard all weekend. I hope that we will have another class there someday and will post it if we do. If you are in the area stop and visit the gallery you will be glad you did.
